Infinity Insurance Review 2016

Infinity Insurance Review 2016 insurance

Infinity Insurance is best known for covering high-risk drivers whose poor records leave them unable to get an auto insurance policy anywhere else.

Infinity also offers insurance for motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, recreational vehicles, boats and classic cars. Its ample line of products include homeowners, renters, mobile home, condo, life, health, umbrella, commercial auto and commercial liability coverage. Although Infinity Insurance serves 44 states, it is selling new policies in only four — Arizona, California, Florida and Texas — and says it is only renewing existing policies in all other states.

Nearly 11,200 independent local agencies and brokers sell or handle Infinity policies.

Infinity Insurance offers coverage for the “nonstandard” market, meaning high-risk drivers with serious or repeated traffic violations or DUI convictions. Infinity provides SR-22 insurance forms, also known as FR-44 forms in some states. High-risk drivers may be required to have their insurers submit these forms to their state to prove they have auto insurance.

Auto insurance discount amounts from Infinity vary by state but might include:

Standard coverage options pay out if your house is damaged or destroyed and cover your home, structures on your property and your belongings. They include liability insurance, which pays out if someone is injured at your home or on or off your property. Homeowners policies cover natural disasters, vandalism, theft, wind, fire or lightning and other problems, but not flooding or earthquakes.

Infinity doesn’t provide life insurance itself but offers it through third-party insurance companies.

Compared with the median for a company of its size, Infinity has a higher number of consumer complaints, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which tracks complaint data. Infinity Insurance Co.’s complaint ratio is 4.18 for auto insurance, which is significantly higher than the industry median of 1. Most complaints had to do with handling of claims, including complaints about delays in paying claims, unsatisfactory claim settlements or offers, and denial of claims.

Unlike most insurance company websites, Infinity’s site offers few details about specific coverage options and discounts for its many products. Website users who want to know more are encouraged to get a quote online or call Infinity.

You can get an Infinity quote online, as well as file and view your claim there and find an agent or an Infinity-preferred repair shop nearby.

The Infinity Auto mobile app gives you much of the same access: You can make payments, submit claims, find repair shops, manage your policy and use DriverClub. Android users give the app 3.6 out of 5 stars, based on 852 reviews; iPhone users give a new version of the app 3.5 stars with 60 reviews.

If your driving record forces you to go to the high-risk insurance market, you can expect to pay more for auto insurance. For that reason alone, it’s smart to shop around and compare price quotes and customer satisfaction ratings. NerdWallet’s comparison tool can help.
